Joe Steinberg
Joe Steinberg spent 25 years of his career with Motorola Semiconductor Products Sector (SPS), which later became Freescale Semiconductor. His experience encompasses all aspects of manufacturing and supply chain operations. As Vice President of SPS China, Joe was responsible as General Manager for the startup and operation the first 200mm wafer fabrication factory in China, G.M of the Assembly and Test operation, and served as the Senior Executive for the Motorola SPS China as well as Managing Director for the XiQing Integrated Manufacturing Site. Joe joined Motorola as a process engineer after graduating from The University of Colorado in Boulder with a BS Electrical Engineering and quickly gained experience in semiconductor manufacturing through a series increasingly responsible management positions.
In 1993 Joe was promoted to Operations Manager for Manufacturing in Austin, TX where he drove capacity and technology expansions and was promoted to Vice President of Operations. Joe was selected by Motorola to startup a new, high technology, and manufacturing complex in 1997 in Tianjin China. This facility was designed as an integrated manufacturing site, combining the 200mm wafer fabrication with assembly and final test, the first high volume, integrated operation of its kind. This facility was the first 200mm wafer fabrication facility to be built in China. Joe spent 8 years in China and during this time served as Vice President and GM of the all the Motorola XiQing Operations as well as being the GM of China for Motorola SPS.
During his time there he participated in many negotiations with the government including leading the spin-off of Freescale Semiconductor from Motorola and was the senior executive for Motorola SPS and Freescale in China. While in China Joe was active in the American Chamber of Commerce in Tianjin and served as the head of the International School of Tianjin Board of Governors. He was active with the local Chinese government officials with many influential party contacts in the Tianjin Municipal government.
